M/T Arionas Aids the Rescue of Migrants in the Mediterranean Sea

Athens, Greece, June 10, 2014. On Saturday June 7, in the early morning hours, M/T Arionas, a vessel managed by Capital Ship Management Corp., received instructions by MRCC Malta and MRCC Rome to divert course and take part in the rescue of 163 migrants in distress on board two inflatable boats in the Mediterranean, south of Malta.

After a successful rescue operation, 163 migrants boarded safely, were accommodated on the deck and provided with all necessary provisions (water, food, blankets etc.). None appeared to require medical attention. At the same time, all necessary precautions and actions were taken, in order to ensure the safety and security of all 163 migrants, as well as the vessel’s crew and cargo.

On Sunday evening, June 8, and during the vessel’s voyage toward Italy, M/T Arionas, following new instructions from MRCC Roma, reached Augusta Port in Sicily, Italy and in the early hours of Monday and after completion of formalities from Local Authorities, all 163 migrants disembarked safely. After the successful completion of the rescue operation, M/T Arionas sailed to her initial destination without any further diversion.

During this 2-days rescue operation, the master and crew of M/T Arionas, provided all the possible support and help to all 163 migrants.
